Apparently there's an annual musician's festival in Austin Texas called South by Southwest. I've never heard about it either, but this year they are offering downloads of tons of mp3s from attending musicians. When I say tons, I mean tons. We're talking 2.7 GB worth of music in 758 files.
The lucky thing is that it doesn't suck. Some of it does, of course, but on the whole I've enjoyed it. I should say "so far" because it's going to take me quite a while to get through all this music. Figuring that mp3s are 1 MB/min makes for over 46 hours of music. Oh, yeah.
If that sounds like fun to you (and it should or I've lost all respect for you), then bop on over to http://2005.sxsw.com/geekout/sxsw4pod/ and grab some good music. You should probably take note that to download the files you'll need BitTorrent P2P software, which is a clever way to distribute files. When you start downloading the file you also start uploading it to everybody else. Makes for very efficient use of bandwidth.
And if you're ever in Austin, stop by the festival and tell them thanks for me.
